ATUT-MFE -Intrinsically safe fiber optic data transmission system

Intrinsically safe, backbone fiber optic Ethernet data transmission system type  ATUT - MFE is a modular ,open system that allows building an underground fiber - optic network , based on a wide range of components. The usage of WDM technology (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), can reduce by half the number of fibers used for data transmission. Due to the fact that the ATUT-MFE network is based on TCP/IP protocol it is possible to implement a full-duplex data transmission with usage of just one fiber.

In general the ATUT-MFE system is designed to be build to provide mine plant with the reliable data transmission backbone network based on fiber optic cable. The most important issue in this subject is that network can change its topology, number of devices or even structure. Once build in mine plant network should than respond to new needs with the easy expansion concering only on placing new devices in the areas where they became necessary.

It is also important to be able to collect as many data from existing devices or systems as it is possible. For this reason proposed solution is based on modules build into the AT-NODE/.. device, which for the system can be seen as the network access gate which is able to receive (from various inputs like sensors, analog telephones, etc.) data and transmit it to the Main Fiber Ethernet Network.

All of the AT-NODE/.. devices shall be considered as the network branches. Collected by those devices data shall be transmitted to the SCADA data base within the backbone network in order to deliver the correct data as fast as it is possible using the transfer rate in the most efficient way.

For this purpose the ATUT-MFE system devices can be used. Its main target is to concern all the incoming data (from multiple network branches) into one fiber optic core running over the main network bus. As the transfer rate is limited for the intrinsically safe (I M1 ia/”op is”) data transmission devices to 100 Mb/s, AT-NODE/.. can also be used to split data transmission over the other cores in the main bus cable in order not to overload any of them. This case is important to be taken under consideration as only the correct and reliable data shall be delivered to the end SCADA system user.

Depending on customer experience and knowlegde ATUT-MFE network can also be equipped with AT-PGS (passive fiber optic junction boxes) located every 300 or 500 meteres (or more). Such a solution is especially useful in case of replacing the bus cable because of the malfunction or mechanical damage. In this case only section of 300 m or 500 m of cable needs to be replaced not more.

Application

ATUT-MFE network backbone system provides solutions to build mine-wide IoT networks of any topology. Moreover its modular design can can provide its user with:

  • Layer-3 network routing
  • quick response to emergency situations - network reconfiguration
  • monitoring of the optical fiber by determination of its transmitter parameters, such as connection quality, medium attenuation (loss),network points traffic
  • redundancy
  • wireless data transmission
  • network access control
  • security and event management
  • VLANs
  • serial communication interface to Ethernet conversion
  • multiple other systems integration
  • flexibility in expansion
