UKAS - Air conditioning unit
The power machine of the cooling system, featuring a reciprocating compressor. It compresses the refrigerant and forces its circulation, lowering temperature and humidity in underground workings and high‑risk rooms.

What it is
There is no cooling without a chiller. UKAS increases the refrigerant pressure and gives it kinetic energy, forcing flow in a closed circuit. Cooling occurs through refrigerant evaporation, either in a direct expansion evaporator or an indirect chiller, depending on the system's operating mode.
An eight- or twelve‑cylinder ST‑type reciprocating compressor, with a maximum pressure of 23 bar, handles the compression. Safety valves protect the installation, preventing excessive pressure build‑up.
A tyre coupling transfers the drive from the electric motor. The rubber dampens shaft vibrations and compensates for dynamic loads during start‑up and braking, so the system withstands daily work cycles without excessive wear.
The device operates in rooms with "a", "b", or "c" degree of methane explosion hazard, and in class A or B coal dust explosion hazard rooms.
UKAS works with SHPAS and CHPAS coolers, the CHWAS evaporative cooler, and the PAS evaporator. It operates in group and central air conditioning.
