KMi-1 - Intrinsically safe media converter
An intrinsically safe media converter translating the 10/100Base‑TX wired network signal to 100Base‑FX fibre‑optic. It operates directly in spaces at risk of gas and dust explosions, inside an enclosure with a minimum IP54 protection rating.

// DESCRIPTION
What it is
KMi‑1 translates the signal between the intrinsically safe 10/100Base‑TX wired network and the 100Base‑FX fibre‑optic network. It has one intrinsically safe Ethernet port with an RJ‑45 connector and a second fibre‑optic port with an SC connector. It transmits over two fibres or a single fibre using WDM technology.
It operates exclusively in single‑mode networks, with a speed of 10/100 Mbps on the Ethernet side and 100 Mbps on the fibre‑optic side, over distances up to 60 km. LED diodes show settings and operating parameters in real time.
It operates in surface visualisation units, control cabinets, and transmission racks. It performs equally well in underground monitoring units, underground control units, and telecommunication lines, both underground and on the surface.
The electrical equipment is intrinsically safe, so the device operates directly in underground mines and tunnels, in rooms at risk of gas and dust explosions. It requires an enclosure with a minimum IP54 protection rating. Device category I M1, explosion‑protected Ex ia op is I Ma design, ATEX certificate KDB 13 ATEX 0143X.
